Retinal Image Analysis: Methods and Challenges
Simon Barriga, Ph.D. - Chief Research Scientist at VisionQuest Biomedical
Presented: November 18, 2014
ABSTRACT: Retinal diseases caused by advanced age and complications of diabetes are the leading causes of blindness in the western world. Recent advances in imaging of the retina have made it possible to photograph the retina and to peer into its layers and individual photoreceptors, giving physicians an incredible amount of detail that can be used to detect, diagnose, and treat eye diseases. In this talk Dr. Simon Barriga, Chief Research Scientist at VisionQuest Biomedical, will present the most common image processing methodologies used to characterize, detect, and track the progression of retinal diseases. He will also describe current challenges in the field and areas open for further research.
