ABSTRACT: I and many others have studied the role of theta-band (~6 Hz) neuroelectric brain oscillations in cognitive control processes including action monitoring, conflict detection and resolution, and learning. This literature is only a decade old, and yet has produced a tome of discoveries and replications implicating midfrontal theta in the neural implementations of computations underlying cognitive control processes. I will very briefly review this literature, discuss the roles of non-theta frequencies in cognitive control, and introduce a new conceptualization of frequency dynamics that may shed additional insights into the midfrontal computations involved in cognitive control.
