Big Data and the IRB

In this talk, I will define and describe big data and clarify the unique, specific risks and benefits of big data research in the context of current regulations. We will discuss big data research through the lens of IRB considerations and I will share an example of a big data research protocol with potential ethical implications.
Linda Petree, BA, CIP currently serves as Director of the UNM’s Human Research Protections Program and has been a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) since 2005. She previously worked at MRN and conducted and published research in the area of research ethics, specific to the return of incidental findings.
