"A Scientific Collaboration On Research In Education"
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – As we learn more about the human brain and its function, we better understand how people gather, process, store and retrieve information. MRN has teamed with New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (NM MESA) to share emerging data with New Mexico educators on improving educational outcomes for children and young adults. SCORE (a Scientific Collaboration on Research in Education) is a free, three-part professional development series that will enable New Mexico teachers to incorporate recent neuroscience discoveries into classroom teaching techniques. SCORE will demonstrate how to use scientific principles to improve educational outcomes.

All three sessions will be held in one of the most advanced neuroscience facilities in the world, the Mind Research Network, 1101 Yale NE on UNM North Campus. Attendees will be encouraged to discuss educator challenges and successes with their peers in attendance, while picking the brain of neuroscience researcher Mike Weisend, Ph.D., director of the MEG Core at MRN.

Weisend, SCORE’s presenter, earned his Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience at UNM in 1997 and trained as a clinical neurophysiologist at the Veteran’s Administration in Albuquerque. Currently, he is funded by the National Institutes of Health to study the neuropsychology of learning.

• SCORE Session I – February 21, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Includes an MRN tour, dinner, introduction to the MRN and MESA, and a discussion on today’s educational system and the children we’re teaching.
• SCORE Session II – March 20, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Includes Learning Theory in Education, dinner and discussion.
• SCORE Session III – April 17, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Includes Neuroscience Theory in Education, dinner and discussion.
